LVIV (REUTERS, AFP) – Russian missiles struck an area near the airport of Ukraine’s western city of Lviv on Friday (March 18), its mayor Andriy Sadovy said, though he added that the airport itself had not been attacked.
Authorities are assessing the situation and will issue updates, he said.
Earlier, television station Ukraine 24 said at least three explosions had been heard in the city. It published a short video in which a plume of smoke could be seen rising on the horizon.
Ambulance and police vehicles were seen racing to the scene.
Writing on messaging app Telegram, Mr Sadovyi said he could not give a precise address of the targeted area, ” but it’s definitely not an airport”.
